Offset was ambushed by a group who tried to rob him before he was shot. The FBI have shared an update on their investigation as they continue their search for suspects.
The musician, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was shot in the leg on Monday, April 6, at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, just north of Miami. A day later, a spokesperson for the rapper and singer confirmed that he was in stable condition. Police said the injuries were not life-threatening.
Throughout the assault, a single shot was fired into Offset’s leg before an unsuccessful attempt to remove the rapper’s watch, the statement said.
Offset, who rose to fame as part of the influential hip-hop trio Migos, was hospitalised for a couple of days but swiftly returned to the stage on Saturday for an appearance at Coachella.
The suspects fled the scene in two Chevrolet SUVs that went in separate directions: a black Suburban that headed toward Hollywood, Florida, and a Tahoe that headed southbound toward Miami. Following the shooting, officers detained two people. One of the people detained was rapper Lil Tjay, born Tione Jayden Merritt. He was arrested in connection with an altercation that occurred before the shooting, the Seminole Police Department in Florida said.
He was charged with disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid license. His lawyer, Dawn M. Florio, told The Associated Press last week that Lil Tjay did not have a gun and was not charged with any weapons or gun-related crimes. He was swiftly released after posting bond.
In a statement in the days after being shot, Offset said: “Thank you to everyone who’s checked in on me and showed me love! I’m good….but I’m planning to be better! I’m focused on my family, my recovery, and getting back to the music… Realising that life is made up of quiet wins and loud losses…
“Life’s a gamble, and I’m still playing to win.” Offset was discharged from the hospital on Friday, just hours before he made a return to the stage. A spokesperson for the musician said: “Offset has been released from the hospital, and he is up and walking.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the doctors, nurses, and the entire hospital staff who took such great care of him.”
Last week, Seminole County Police said: “We are aware of an incident that occurred at a valet area after 7pm Monday outside of Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood that resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to an individual who was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.” – Mirror
