Ma9ine demands royalties from Matabeleland speaker vendors using his music

BULAWAYO musician Ma9ine has raised an issue on his Facebook page, claiming that vendors of speaker boxes in Matabeleland owe him a share of their profits for using his music to promote their products.

“People selling speaker boxes in Matabeleland are making 100% profit because of my music. I need shares.”

The post sparked a lively response, with many fans quoting lyrics from his songs to show their appreciation and support. When reached for a comment, the Ndebele Zimdancehall musician expressed his frustration: “This has been an ongoing issue, and I felt it was time to speak up. It’s no secret that my music dominates the social scenes in Matabeleland, particularly among ghetto youths who are my main fan base. They are the ones who often listen to my tracks, even during power cuts, gathering under bridges to enjoy my music,” he explained.

Ma9ine argued for a formal financial arrangement with the vendors:

“Without my songs, I doubt the speaker box business in Matabeleland would be as successful. There should be an official agreement between me and the vendors. This issue needs to be addressed,” he insisted.

Ma9ine is well-known for popular tracks such as ‘Chimuti’, ‘Windi Womtshova,’ ‘Ulotsholiwe,’ and ‘Bathi ngibhemile,’ among others.
