The six-member outfit from Mhondoro has released their third album titled “Mutumwa waBaba” that is also a tribute to one of their departed members, Leonard Kurima.
Recorded at Shed Studios and marketed and distributed by Metro Studios, the eight-track album was recorded with mentorship from Mamrod Magaya of the popular apostolic music group, Vabati VaJehovha.
This is the group’s first release following the departure of three of their members to form a splinter group last year.
But the split has not taken anything away from the outfit that is gifted with talented vocalists like Alois Kurima, Wellington Zvinavashe and Ephraim Chinamarimba who composed and did the lead vocals on all the songs on the album.
It kicks off with the song “Ndinotya” about how God’s name is hallowed and omnipotent.
“Mutumwa Wababa” talks about the messengers of God who deliver His Word to the world, starting with Jesus Christ and how anyone else can be a herald of the gospel.
“NaJesu” is about how everything is possible with Jesus Christ, if one has faith.
But this faith should stem from God’s gospel alone, which is the message of the song “Shoko Rimwe”, while “Huyai Mose” is a call for all and sundry to repent.
People are advised not to waste their time worrying over problems but seek solace in God, in the song “Musanyunyuta”.
If you know the song “Jobo Muranda” then you should fall in love with the version of the track featured on this album.
It signs off with the tribute track, “Endai Naye” dedicated to their departed member Leonard Kurima.
Established in 2009, Mabasa Avatumwa first stormed the music charts with their hit song “Mandigonera” carried on their debut album “Tiri Munzira” released the same year.
They then followed this up with another album “Paye Paye” in 2010.
They are billed to perform at a show to be held in Dzivarasekwa featuring various other groups including Vabati VaJehovha, among others, on Saturday.
