Business owners and residents around Kamunhu Shopping Centre in Mabvuku have complained that they haven’t had electricity since September last year.
They said the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC)’s failure to repair the fault had inconvenienced them.
A Mabvuku resident who preferred anonymity said:
“The lack of electricity in the area has affected many people and businesses.
“It’s very difficult and expensive to run a butcher using a generator every day. The fault happened in September and ZESA keeps giving excuses for not fixing it.
“We even offered to provide free labour as a community, but they keep telling us to wait,” he said.
The fault only affects the Mabvuku shopping centre and households close by.
“It is painful that it’s only our area that is affected by this fault. We are tired of eating bad meat every day since our local butchers are not able to run generators the whole day,” said another resident.
A ZESA official reportedly responsible for the Mabvuku area, one Nhakura, said he was busy when contacted by H-Metro.
