MABVUKU/TAFARA POLICE BOSS URGES COMMUNITY TO JOIN IN FIGHT AGAINST DRUGS AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE

THE Tafara-Mabvuku community has been urged to motivate their children to join the police’s Junior Call programmes as part of an intensified fight against drug and substance abuse.

This appeal was made by Chief Superintendent Anacliata Kavhai, the Officer Commanding Harare East District, during the Police Client Service Charter event at Tafara Shopping Centre.

Chief Supt Kavhai emphasised the importance of community support

“Policing cannot succeed in isolation. A police service without community involvement is like a wheel without a hub.”

“Residents are encouraged to form or join Neighbourhood Watch Committees to patrol and safeguard their communities, with the full backing of the police.

“We also invite you to participate in our Crime Liaison Committee (CLC), where members can partner with us by providing material support, advice, and practical solutions to enhance our service delivery.”

In a bid to foster a culture of responsibility among the youths, Chief Supt Kavhai urged children of school-age to engage in Junior Call Programmes. She also welcomed the involvement of the Christian Community Police Network (CCPN) and encouraged businesses to connect via the Business Against Crime Forum of Zimbabwe (BACFOZ).

“We work only with partners who demonstrate good intentions, are properly vetted, and share our vision of creating a crime-free environment,” she said.

“We urge community members to inform us about officers who serve with professionalism, integrity, and dedication.

“Recognising excellence strengthens morale and helps us build a police service aligned with our values.”

She added: “In this modern era of policing, partnerships between police and the public are built on trust. We need your information and tips.

“Contact us via phone, WhatsApp, suggestion boxes, or visit any police station —confidentiality is guaranteed.”

The event also featured impressive displays by Police Junior Call members.

David Machowa, a dancer, choreographer, and director of the Apama Styles dance group, reminded the youths of the dangers of drug and substance abuse.

“I urge our youths not to waste time on drugs.

“Recently, I performed in China and was compensated for it.

“Poor academic results do not justify loitering on the streets, you can entertain and earn a living instead.

“Abusing substances is undermining your chances of reaching your goals.”
