The South Africa-based singer, who is currently in Zimbabwe for a visit, said the decision to produce a sungura album was meant to spread his wings to a wider audience.
He described sungura as a beat that not only defined Zimbabwean music, but also appealed to other corners of the continent.
“In South Africa, sungura is well appreciated and that is the reason why Jonah Moyo has made a name for himself and is now based there.
“Sungura also has its roots in other countries like Tanzania and, therefore, since we are on a mission to spread God’s word, we have decided to use the sungura vehicle which makes it easier to grab the attention of many people,” he said.
During his stay in the country, Bishop Juru and his group are expected to stage a number of shows in Zimbabwe as a way of promoting his forthcoming album.
“We have been holding shows in Zimbabwe before we left for South Africa and we want to get back to our usual itinerary, while I am here,” said the bulky musician.
Bishop Juru expressed his gratitude to the support that some Zimbabweans based in South Africa had been giving him, saying they inspired him to come up with a new project.
“Our Zimbabwean brothers and sisters in South Africa are always following trends back home and they like both old and new albums from Alick Macheso, Suluman Chimbetu, Oliver Mtukudzi, Pastor Charles Charamba and others.
“They are always encouraging me to come up with something new, hence my decision to record this new sungura gospel album,” he said.
Tracks on the album — which is being recorded at Last Power Media — include “Emmanuel”, “Rufu”, “Handina Kudzidza”, “Betrayer” as well as the title track, “Chivandire”.
“Emmanuel” talks about Jesus Christ’s abundant mercy and why he sacrificed to be crucified on the cross. One of the world’s biggset acts of sin was when Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus for the love of money and this makes up the gist of the track “Betrayer”, while “Chivandire” also carries a similar message.
Bishop Juru rose to prominence with the release “Rabhahoma Burutsa Mweya” followed by other equally good albums.
He is also the leader and founder of the Zvirevo Zvavatendi Apostolic Church.
