Macheso calls for support for families of police officers who died in the line of dutyA

Music legend Alick Macheso says families of police officers, who lost their lives while in the line of their duty, should always be supported.

Speaking on the sidelines of a Police Fanfair, Macheso said:

“The change of venue by the police from Mkushi Academy to Glamis Arena is commendable.

“By moving from their base, it showed that they saw the need to engage with the community.

“Mapurisa vanhu, ihama dzedu nekudaro kuvarwisa kuparadza runyararo munyika uye kusimbisa mabasa ehumbavha.

“Today, we are here to support police families who lost their parents while discharging their duties.

“I want to challenge the nation, including corporates and churches, to join hands in supporting our law enforcement agencies.”

Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi told H-Metro that more than 6000 families have been receiving help from the organisation.

“We want to thank members of the public for always supporting the Commissioner General of Police Fund through attending the Funfair,” said Comm Nyathi.

“It is one of the ways police use in raising funds for the orphans.

“We have more than 6000 families benefitting and some of them, who received scholarships, are now company directors, medical doctors and engineers.

“Among the fallen officers, some were involved in road traffic accidents where kombi drivers ran over them trying to evade arrest.”

Other artists who participated at the Fun Fair were Pastor Charles Charamba and his wife Olivia, Selmor Mtukudzi, Sulumani Chimbetu, Tryson Chimbetu, Andy Muridzo, Jah Signal and the Police Band.
