Fresh from his Jozi conquest, where he treated fans to good music coupled by his Kochekera dance, Macheso is expected to pull the same feat this Friday, when he thrills fans from across the divide with a high-octane gig.
The show will also serve as a preparatory gig, for the group’s United Kingdom tour on March 28 and 29 in Workington and Leicester respectively.
Macheso’s manager, William Tsandukwa, said Orchestra Mberikwazvo would give their fans value for money, adding that the group was raring to go following their successful shows in South Africa.
“The group has taken the Kochekera dance to another level.
“You can imagine our pleasant surprise when fans in Jo’burg started screaming for the Kochekera dance before the boys had even introduced it.
“We are also happy that we have been able to build a brand that cuts across social and language barriers because not all the fans who came for the shows were Zimbabweans, but we had other nationalities like South Africans themselves who were there during the two days,” he said.
True to Tsandukwa’s word, there is no doubt that Macheso’s music is increasingly becoming a household name not only in Zimbabwe, but across the region.
His music, which looks at societal trials and tribulations, continues to endear him with fans, who naturally are intrigued and mesmerised with both the lyrical content and the instrumentation on his songs.
With a discography spanning over 15 years, Macheso never bores his fans with the same songs, but tries to be innovative with his playlist.
Whenever he is on stage, he mesmerises many with his guitar strumming skills which seem to evolve with each performance.
When the act gets heated up, he often introduces the “free for all” segment where he invites anyone on stage to showcase their dancing skills, something that adds flavour to the whole show.
So come Friday, his fans should expect nothing short of fireworks. Whether he kicks off the show with “Gogoi”, “Shedia”, “Madhawu” or “Charakupa”, the fans are assured of a night to remember till the early hours of the following day.
