A CONVERSATION with Alick Macheso’s daughters, Stacy and Monalisa, is guaranteed to leave one entertained and enlightened.
The sisters possess contrasting personalities that complement each other perfectly.
Stacey, 23, is the more outspoken of the two – confident, lively and intelligent.
She easily fits the description of a daddy’s girl, judging by the freedom and close bond she shares with her father.
Monalisa is quieter, more reserved and equally intelligent.
While she may not be as vocal as her sister, her calm demeanour speaks volumes.
Of course, there is Sharon, the first-born, but the spotlight in this interview is on Stacey and Monalisa, who have recently been accompanying their celebrity father to several public engagements.
STACEY
In a recent interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub on the sidelines of her father’s 58th birthday celebrations, Stacey, who was practically running the show, revealed her true colours as an easy-going, charismatic and confident young woman.
“I am a free spirit who does not hide who I am but I am well-mannered,” said Stacey.
“In the eyes of many, I might appear to be daddy’s girl, but there are times when we clash and later make up.
“My father has never laid a hand on us or whipped us. The strongest whip he gives is through his counselling.
“Once he sits you down and talks to you, you realise where you went wrong and you do not even need to be reminded to correct your mistakes.”
Stacey, who recently made waves after plaiting her father’s hair ahead of one of his shows, said their bond was special.
“We just click, my dad and I. As you know, there is always a special bond between a daughter and her father. The same way mothers often share a unique bond with their sons.
“With him, I have the freedom to discuss anything because we are more than just father and daughter – we are friends,” she said.
Asked who was responsible for styling her father’s wardrobe before public appearances, Stacey smiled.
“I am the one who has been styling my dad and making sure he looks presentable. He is comfortable with my advice and often trusts my judgment on what suits a particular occasion.
“I only overdid it when I plaited his hair. The backlash was too much. What was meant to be fun became a big issue because some people could not appreciate the humour behind it.
“But as of now, mukadzi wavo ndiye ari kuvasorter. I have done my part,” she said with a chuckle.
Asked whether she had ever disappointed her father, Stacey was candid.
“On several occasions, and he was not happy about it. He would sit me down and explain why what I was doing was wrong.
“He always encouraged me to behave responsibly and make better decisions.”
Stacey, who is also pursuing a music career, said her father was initially skeptical about her ambitions.
“My dad was a bit skeptical when I decided to venture into music because my brothers, Esau and Tatenda, already have a band.
“I saved my own money and recorded my single, Ingozi. He was surprised that I could actually sing. I even heard him telling my mother that I was good.”
MONALISA
She is more reserved and less active on social media than her younger sister.
“I think I am the quieter version of Stacey, and I cannot change that because it is simply how I was born,” she said.
“I am blessed to have such a loving father. He has always been there for us and all he wants is for us to have a better life and a brighter future.
“I would be lying before God if I said he was never there for us because he has always treated us equally.
“However, there seems to be a stronger bond between him and his daughters, and I think the reasons are obvious.”
Monalisa, who comes across as more mature and reserved than Stacey, also revealed how they cheer up their father whenever he is feeling low.
“We talk to him and tease him as usual,” she said.
Like her sister, Monalisa admitted that she has also disappointed her father before.
“Yes, I disappointed him at one point, but I will not say what happened. He was deeply disappointed and gave me a serious lecture. I never repeated the mistake again,” she said.
As Macheso celebrates his 58th birthday, one thing remains evident – the strong bond he shares with his daughters, Stacey and Monalisa, is impossible to ignore.
