VICTOR “Seke Vibes” Chadamoyo, a former protégé of musician Tryson Chimbetu, says he deserves recognition as the first artist to record the now-popular song ‘Ndinonzwa Nani’, also known as ‘Kure Kure’, seven years ago.

The 32-year-old, who has since transitioned from Dendera music to jiti, insists he is not seeking money or personal glory but simply acknowledgment for his contribution.

The song has become a sensation, enjoying heavy rotation on local radio stations, in pubs and at social gatherings.

Arts critics have tipped it to become one of the Songs of the Year due to its simple yet powerful lyrics that preach resilience, perseverance and courage.

Several musicians have since recorded their own versions of the song.

Magic Wacho released his rendition, while Nisha Ts put her unique touch on it in collaboration with Enzo Ishall, Calvin Mangena and Master H.

The song has also gained significant traction on TikTok.

Despite the growing popularity of the newer versions, Seke Vibes believes his pioneering role should not be overlooked.

“I might appear to be an attention seeker but, for your own information, I was the first musician to record ‘Kure Kure’ or ‘Ndinonzwa Nani’ seven years ago,” he said.

“I still have the video, and people can see it for themselves.

“At first, I wanted to confront the new composers of the song, but I have since taken a back seat because there are some battles in life that are better left unfought.

“I recorded the song at Wagga Studios in Chitungwiza seven years ago. It was produced by Dance Kedha, one of the most underrated producers in Chitungwiza.”

Seke Vibes, who now stays in Seke, revealed that the lyrics were inspired by his grandmother.

“For your own information, I got the lyrics from my grandmother in Seke.

“She shared them with me as a way of encouraging me because I was raised in a broken family.

“The lyrics stayed in my mind for years and I eventually decided to record them.

“I often ask myself why Zimbabweans find it difficult to give each other credit, but that is part of life,” he said while fighting back tears.

He added:

“I do not want to dwell too much on the issue because I am now focused on moving forward with my career.

“At 32, I still have a bright future ahead of me, and I do not want to appear petty.

“What I am praying for at the moment is recognition for the work we are doing.

“Music is a business, and I should enjoy what I do. That is why I will continue recording.”

Seke Vibes has just released a new single titled ‘Handichade Kunyengerera’, which was recorded at KOM Studios.

“As a man, I do not easily give up. My desire is to keep working hard and trust that I will be rewarded in the fullness of time.

“I am currently working with Mr Knowledge Nkoma on a new album scheduled for release later this year.

“He has been pushing me to take my music career seriously, which is why I spend most of my time in the studio doing what I love most — making music.

“I will never stop doing music because I genuinely love and enjoy it.”

He added:

“To me, Tryson is heaven-sent. He recently recommended me to Giant Petroleum boss Mr Mtasa, who also believes in my vision.

“Having people of that calibre supporting your dream is a major triumph.”
