THERE is something that is concerning police in the Mashonaland West capital — the presence of machetes and okapis at snooker tables in Chinhoyi.
Provincial police spokesman, Inspector Ian Kohwera, told H- Metro they have noted with concern an increasing number of people who are moving around with dangerous weapons like okapis and machetes, especially at places where snooker is played.
A man was murdered here on Sunday after a misunderstanding at Varsity Blues Nightclub near the Chinhoyi main bus rank.
Insp Kohwera said Stewart Mbewe had a misunderstanding with Tatenda Mutamba.
“Mbewe was stabbed four times with an object on the right hip and buttocks.
“So far, one suspect, Mutamba, has been arrested. People must solve their problems amicably rather than resort to violent means.
“It is very worrying that when people have a misunderstanding, one can just draw a knife and stab someone.”
He added:
“It has come to our attention that most men are moving around with weapons.
“We will continue with our stop-and-search operations.
“In fact, we have heightened our security operations after observing that a lot of men are moving around with dangerous weapons.”
