However, the director of culture at the Culture and National Heritage Ministry Victoire Ramilison said that an inter – ministerial meeting held last Thursday resolved that the anti-piracy brigade should first sensitise the public on the notions of heritage and piracy.
The inter-ministerial committee which worked on the revival of this anti-piracy brigade is comprised of 10 personalities from the Culture and National heritage ministry, Commerce, Interior and Justice ministries as well as representatives from the security forces.
Ramilison explained that the inter-ministerial commission decided that the brigade will also have the task of communicating to the population the consequences of pirating the artistic work as well as destruction of heritage.
The brigade which is also comprised of magistrates and technocrats, will have the powers to take repressive measures to fight against piracy given that the measures that have been taken since 2006 have not had palpable results.
The resolutions that the inter-ministerial commission came up with on Thursday will be submitted to the Madagascan Cabinet for adoption so that they can become law. – Xinhua.
