ZIMBABWE football legend Madinda ‘Khathazile’ Ndlovu has praised his younger brother Peter
Ndlovu after he won his debut for Scottland on Thursday following his appointment as interim head coach.
Peter replacing Norman Mapeza who was fired at Scottland.
Mapeza and Scottland severed ties after their Caf Champions League exit.
Peter made an immediate impact, guiding Scottland to a 1-0 win over CAPS United at Rufaro
Stadium on Thursday.
Emmanuel Jalai scored the decisive goal in the sixth minute of the Matchday 32 encounter.
The victory keeps Scottland’s title defence alive on 64 points, five behind log leaders Hardrock.
For Madinda, the result was a proud family moment.
Despite his own situation, Madinda said he was delighted to see his young brother transition from
team manager to head coach.
“I’m very happy for my young brother Nsukuzonke. He has always been a leader. I opened the doors
for him and the late Adam at Bosso, but they took the family gift to another level,” Madinda said of
his brothers who are the senior national team top scorers.
“To win your first game as a coach, against a big team like CAPS United and under that pressure at
Scottland, shows character. I know what coaching pressure feels like. He just needs to remain
humble, work hard and listen to the players, his technical team and deliver.”
Madinda, nicknamed Khathazile for his troublesome pace and dribbling during his playing days,
had returned to Highlanders in a technical role in 2024 but his contract was not extended.
He previously made history in Botswana, winning three consecutive league titles with two different
clubs.
Peter’s debut win writes a new chapter for the Ndlovu family — the first family to provide the
Zimbabwe senior national team with three brothers at the same time in the Warriors during the
Reinhard Fabisch Dream Team era.
Their other brother is still involved in the game while Adam is deceased.
Marko is part of the Highlanders juniors’ technical team.
While the late Adam, who also coached Chicken Inn, died on December 16, 2012.
Peter, the first African to play and score in the English Premier League with Coventry City in 1992,
downplayed his own achievement after the CAPS game, crediting the players for their effort and
unity.
However for Madinda, watching from Bulawayo, it was still a moment of pride for the family that
gave Zimbabwe Madinda, Adam and Peter.
