MADZIBABA Ishmael Chokurongerwa, who is now out on bail, is fit to stand trial after recovering from an earlier ailment.
However, his companion, Takavengwa Gwenzi, has not recovered from his lung infection, and is still bedridden.
Their trial failed to get underway yesterday after their lawyer, Purity Chikangaise, failed to show up due to ill health.
Madzibaba Ishmael was granted US$1 000 bail by the High Court.
He was ordered to reside at his given address and to report to police twice a week.
A lawyer, who stood in for Chikangaise, handed in a doctor’s report on her behalf, before applying for the matter to be postponed to June 11.
The State consented to the postponement indicating that it would not entertain further postponements on the next remand date.
Madzibaba Ishmael and his accomplices are on trial for contravening Section 3(1) and (2) of the Burial and Cremation Act 5:03 and Section (7) and (5) of the Children’s Act 5:06.
The apostolic sect leader is also facing rape charges for allegedly having sexual intercourse with five minors with whom he has six children.
Three other suspects are also facing domestic violence charges.
