Mafero heaps blame on strikeforce

CHICKEN Inn boss, Joey Antipas, believes their title campaign has been ruined by the lack of consistency from his strikeforce.

The Gamecocks are struggling to produce the consistency they exhibited during the first round of the Castle Lager Premiership.

They were top of the table at the halfway stage of the campaign.

The two-time champions are slowly losing grip in the title race as they are now five points adrift of the leaders, FC Platinum, who have accumulated 43 points.

For the first time this season, Antipas’s troops have recorded back-to-back losses and amassed three points out of a possible nine.

“It’s unfortunate that we haven’t been collecting the desired points and, even if we are to say that we are not in the championship race, it doesn’t justify our poor form.

“We haven’t been at our best, the boys are not showing the hunger and the zeal to win matches.

“We have failed to score in our last two matches and I think the boys have to deliver every time if we are entertaining any hopes of fighting for the championship on the last day of the season,” said Antipas.

He also hinted they are on the brink of roping in two high-profile players in the coming days.

The club’s ‘keeper, Donovan Bernard, is reportedly on the verge of leaving the Gamecocks for the South Africa’s GladAfrica championship side, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.

“Players do come and go but, for Bernard, I wish him nothing but the best if the deal materialises.

“He has been one of our main man and his contributions have been immense and it will be injustice to stand in his way if something comes on his table,” he said.

Chicken Inn are scheduled for a date with Bulawayo Chiefs this coming weekend.

The Ninjas have been also struggling to connect the loose ends as they have suffered two defeats on the bounce.

The Gamecocks won in the reverse fixture 2-1 at Luveve.

“It’s a tricky game for both teams, we are all coming from two losses and we need to redeem ourselves in this fixture.

“A lot has changed since our last meeting with the Ninjas but considering where we are, and what we want to achieve, we now need to field players who are more willing to go to the extremes.”
