HARARE Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume has proposed that they work with International Olympic Committee president-elect and former Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry to develop Highlands Swimming Pool.

Speaking at the 1934th ordinary council meeting currently underway, Cllr Mafume said he will talk to the local people and the area councillor and see if the swimming pool can be named after Coventry.

“We as the city council would also like to congratulate Hon Kirsty Coventry on her election, the head of the biggest and most famous sports organisation in the whole world ie the International Olympic Committee,” he said.

“We have long wanted to have a partnership with Hon Kirsty Coventry on one of the swimming pools.

“She wanted to adopt it, and I propose as a council we should work with her to develop the Highlands swimming pool.

“I don’t know what it’s called, but I would talk to the local people, the local councillor and see if we can name the swimming pool after Honourable Kirsty Coventry.

“So the local councillor and the people can expedite working with the Honourable on the swimming pool and maybe, because she’s the IOC president, maybe donations will come towards that swimming pool if we name it after her,” he said.
