CHIEF Magistrate Mishrod Guvamombe has applauded Harare Regional Magistrate Mr Simon Kachambwa for being a clean man who did not accept bribes during his 43 years of service. Mr Kachambwa retires at the end of this month. Speaking at Mr Kachambwa’s farewell party held at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts last week, Mr Guvamombe described Mr Kachambwa as an upright, dedicated and humble man.
“We heard reports that others attempted to engage him in corruption but he closed the door… The Judicial Service Commission salutes you. You made a huge contribution in the justice delivery system,” he said.
Magistrates’ Association of Zimbabwe vice president Mr Never Katiyo thanked Mr Kachambwa for his long service to the country.
“He is retiring a clean man. Our hearts are bleeding. We bemoan Court 14 where you have created a legacy,” he said.
Harare area public prosecutor Mr Jonathan Murombedzi described Mr Kachambwa as a dedicated man who soldiered on until the day of his retirement.
“Others leave for greener pastures while others quit for different reasons, today we are celebrating the retirement of a straightforward man who soldiered on. It is rare to have someone like him. All those who worked with him learnt a lot from his wisdom,” he said.
Mr Kachambwa is retiring at age 64.
He joined Government in 1970 as a district cadet training to be a District Administrator.
In 1983 he was transferred to the courts as an inspector supervising presiding officers.
He became the first Kariba magistrate after setting up the court from scratch. He served at various courts in the country before he was promoted to his current position.
