A Bulawayo magistrate lashed out at a 23-year-old man from Umguza in Matabeleland North province who was charged with beating a fellow villager and robbing him of his speaker box and US$8, describing him as a bully.
Magistrate Ernest Muzembe rebuked Zenzo Ncube, who appeared before him facing robbery charges.
Ncube pleaded not guilty but was convicted and sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment of which four months imprisonment were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within the time period of five years.
A further six years were suspended on condition that he completes 210 hours of community service.
“When passing sentence, Magistrate Muzembe noted that Ncube had no apparent reason for assaulting the complainant. He is a bully and his behaviour must be controlled for he assaulted the complainant with no apparent reason,” the magistrate charged.
The court heard that on 24 November 2024 at 4pm Ncube assaulted Khawulani Ncube several times on the face using open hands over accusations of why he was spending money alone instead of with him.
It was further heard that Ncube forcibly took a speaker box and US$8 from Khawulani’s pocket. The value stolen was US$18 and nothing was recovered. The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of Ncube.
