TSHIBILIKA music maestro Clement Magwaza, the frontman of Macrey Super Sounds, is set to unveil his upcoming single Ukukhula Kwami at this year’s Independence Gala on April 18.
The launch is expected to draw a significant audience as part of the national celebrations.
The main Independence commemorations, held under the theme “Zim@46: Unity and Development towards Vision 2030,” will take place at Maphisa growth point in Matobo District, Matabeleland South. After the official proceedings, the gala will continue at the Minda High School grounds from 6PM and run throughout the night.
Magwaza will share the stage with a wide line-up of artistes scheduled to perform at the highly anticipated event. Among them are Jeys Marabini, Mavusani and The Chimurenga Vocalists, Black Diva, Dereck Mpofu, Andy Muridzo, LMG Choir, Mbare Chimurenga Choir, Zinjaziyamluma and Black Umfolosi. The roster also features Ndolwane Super Sounds, Chief Hwenje, Khonangale, Indosakusa: The Morning Star, Iyasa, Ma9Nine, Godolude, Bhadilah, Chase Skuza, Jah Master, Sasha, Bolamba Culture Birds, Ndux Makadii, Suluman Chimbetu, Ufasimba Home of Arts, DT Bio Mudimba and Dubai Masters.
Hosting duties on the main stage will be handled by Thulani Munyadi, Leonard Ncube, Nqobile Malinga and Cde Phil Moyo.
Building on the success of his recent album Indoda YiUmbrella, Magwaza said fans should expect a memorable performance as he debuts his new single before a nationwide audience marking Independence Day. He explained that Ukukhula Kwami carries a reflective message on personal growth and resilience, shaped by one’s upbringing.
“The track talks about one’s upbringing. Many grew up in the hands of their parents, while some grew up without parents and had to be taken care of by their relatives, and extended family members.
“On this song, I encourage people to work hard in improving their lives, even though they grew up under difficult circumstances. The song highlights that one’s past should not define their future,” said Magwaza.
Renowned for his energetic Kokotsha dance, Magwaza said he welcomes the opportunity to represent his art on a national platform once again.
“To be called once again to be amongst performers at the upcoming Gala in Maphisa is a blessing to me because I got a chance to be amongst Zimbabwe’s sons and daughters, who take pride in celebrating our culture, heritage and history through music.
“I last performed at a national event last year in Gokwe, and I am happy that this time, the celebrations will be in Matabeleland South, where I come from.
“I would like to applaud the Government for coming up with this initiative as it gives equal opportunities to everyone in different parts of the country,” said Magwaza. — @mthabisi_mthire
