MAGWEGWE Stars handed Inline Academy their first defeat of the season in the Thembalethu Southern Region Women’s Soccer League at Magwegwe High School on Saturday.

Goals from Revonia Gumbo and Primrose Ngwenya propelled Magwegwe Stars to a 2-0 victory over newly crowned league champions Inline.

The champions never looked like getting back into the match after 18-year-old Ngwenya doubled Magwegwe’s lead shortly before the hour mark.

Inline went into the match unbeaten and leading Magwegwe Stars by five points.

Magwegwe coach Anele Nyathi said: “I’m so emotional, the girls showed fundamentals of being competitive on the field of play. They took instructions and executed our game plan perfectly.”

Elsewhere, Highlanders Royals drew 2-2 with New Orleans at Highlanders Sports Club, while Ubuntu thumped Sobukhazi 5-0 in Cowdray Park and Bulawayo Polytechnic played to a goalless draw with Blackboots.
