A BULAWAYO woman has been sentenced to 350 hours of community service after she was caught red-handed dealing dagga — including selling to a 15-year-old boy.

Nomvelo Hadebe (34) of Pumula South was convicted of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs by Western Commonage Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga on Friday.
She begins her sentence on Monday at Pumula Police Station, after narrowly escaping jail time.

The court heard that on 13 June, police officers from Nkulumane Police Station were chasing a suspect in Pumula South when they bumped into a teenager holding a sachet of dagga.

“Upon questioning, the boy revealed that he had obtained the dagga from Hadebe,” said prosecutor Tafara Dzimbanhete.

Acting on the tip-off, officers raided Hadebe’s home and discovered seven sachets of dagga stashed inside a stove oven. A further search turned up another plastic bag packed with loose weed.

The total stash weighed 255 grams and carried a street value of ZiG 7 140.
Hadebe, now branded a pusher in her neighbourhood, will spend the next few months scrubbing police floors instead of rotting in prison.
