THE storm surrounding Highlanders Football Club intensified this week after the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) swooped on the club’s offices on Thursday, launching a probe into alleged dodgy dealings around player transfers and financial mismanagement.
In a statement issued late Friday, Bosso broke their silence, distancing themselves from any wrongdoing and making it clear that they did not invite the anti-graft body.
“Highlanders Football Club has not made any report to ZACC, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) or any other investigative body,” reads the statement, signed off by the club’s board chairman.
While the club confirmed ZACC’s unannounced visit, it insists internal processes are strong enough to handle any concerns that arise.
“The Club has effective administration processes that can deal with any issues of concern,” read the statement.
Tensions have been brewing since Thursday morning, when a ZACC delegation showed up at Highlanders’ offices to question club executives over alleged irregularities in transfer dealings and use of funds. Sources suggest that a number of transactions had raised eyebrows among internal stakeholders, prompting outside scrutiny.
Acting CEO Kindman Ndlovu confirmed ZACC’s visit but would not be drawn into the specifics, only saying the club was cooperating with the investigation. He referred further inquiries to chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, who has yet to issue a separate comment.
Despite the ongoing probe, Bosso is standing firm, reassuring its sponsors, fans and partners that operations are secure and that sensitive information remains protected.
“The Club would like to assure the Club’s sponsors and other stakeholders that the information relating to them is safe and has not been contaminated,” the statement read.
Highlanders also took the opportunity to reassert their commitment to clean governance in line with global football standards.
“As a member of the Premier Soccer League (PSL), an affiliate of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), under the auspices of FIFA, the Club is committed to upholding the rules and regulations of FIFA and ensuring that governance and operations are free from external interference,” reads the statement, citing Article 14 and Article 19 of FIFA’s statutes.
As the investigations unfold, Bosso fans are watching closely, hoping their beloved club’s name won’t be dragged through the mud — again.
