MULTI-award- winning gospel artiste Michael Mahendere scooped the best African Gospel Artiste of the Year at the 5th Independent National Gospel Music Awards (Ingoma) in Johannesburg South Africa on Sunday.
Michael Mahendere, who is a businessman and pastor at the United Family International Church under Emmanuel Makandiwa outshined other African artistes from South Africa, Swaziland and Nigeria as he walked away with the prestigious award.
Mahendere’s hit track Mwari Munondigonera was the catalyst to the achievement for the artiste.
Mahendere dedicated his award to his loyal fans.
“This award is dedicated to my loyal fans that have turned to be family, thank you so much,” said Mahendere.
He also expressed gratitude to his South African friend and award winning gospel artist Minister Harry whom he says introduced him to the South African music industry. Minister Harry and Minister Mahendere have collaborated on some songs.
“Minister Harry is a brother to me. I would like to thank him for introducing me to the South African music industry and collaborating with us. He is one of the people who made it possible for us to win the award,” he said.
Mahendere began his music career being part of a family group which consisted of his brothers Akim, Mishek and Amos which was the Mahendere Brothers. At the moment Mahendere is leading a solo successful career.
The Ingoma awards were founded in 2013 by South African young gospel lovers aimed at promoting and celebrating gospel talent.
