Maheu drink ends fisherman’s life

A fisherman at Ndomo Fishing Camp in Gache Gache, Kariba has been arrested after stabbing his friend over maheu drink, police have confirmed.

The suspect, Perfect Kembo Lembani (23) was arrested and is now assisting the police with investigations.

Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Inspector Margret Chitove confirmed arrest of the suspect.

‘‘The suspect (Lembani) stabbed Stephan Mutematsaka (32) with a knife on the chest and abdomen on October 30 at Ndomo Fishing Camp after the victim had taken his maheu drink without consent, ” said Insp Chitove.

She added that the deceased died in Harare.

‘‘The victim died on November 8 while admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, ” she said.

Insp Chitove urged members of the public to avoid violent behaviour that may lead to murder.

‘‘We call on people to observe the sanctity of human life,’’ she said in a telephone interview.
