The success of the second season of traditional cuisine and culture platform Magriza Made Me Cook has opened another international door for its founder and head chef, Prince Sivalo Mahlangu, who is in China attending a cultural exchange seminar.
Mahlangu was selected to participate in the Seminar on Art Innovation and Management under the Global Civilisation Initiative, which runs from August 27 to September 9, 2026.
The annual seminar brings together international cultural practitioners, including representatives from African countries, to promote global cooperation and mutual learning in arts management, cultural heritage and creative innovation.
Mahlangu, who has emerged as one of the prominent practitioners championing traditional African cuisine and culture, is participating alongside 24 other African creatives from neighbouring countries.
During his two-week stay, Mahlangu is also taking the opportunity to explore Chinese traditions, cultural heritage and cuisine, drawing inspiration from the country’s diverse culinary and cultural landscape.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be in China to savour its incredible cuisine and immerse myself in its rich culture. Over the next two weeks, we’ll delve into China’s fascinating traditions and explore its diverse cultural and historical centres,” Mahlangu said in a recent social media post.
He said the opportunity was a significant milestone in his cultural journey and credited the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China for facilitating his participation.
“I was selected to participate in the Seminar on Art Innovation and Management under the Global Civilisation Initiative in China. I’m incredibly grateful to China Ambassador to Zimbabwe Ding Zhou and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China for this extraordinary opportunity,” he said.
