A woman is at loggerheads with her maid who told her that she wanted to sire a child with her husband since she was failing to give him children, the Harare Civil Court heard yesterday.

Edna Singano claimed Rutendo Chitemerere was having an adulterous relationship with her husband.

Singano was seeking a peace order against Chitemerere whom she was accusing of physically and verbally abusing her.

“I employed her as a maid last month, but now she is sleeping with my husband and she has the guts to tell me that she wanted to have a child with him,” she said.

Singano told magistrate Mr Trevor Nyatsanza that Chitemerere was in the habit of physically abusing her by calling her a prostitute.

“I even fired her, but she was brought back at our matrimonial home by my husband who told me that I was the one who was supposed to leave the house,” she said. “She is now disrespecting me and threatening to ruin my marriage.”

Singano pleaded with Mr Nyatsanza to evict Chitemerere from her matrimonial home, saying her marriage was now on the rocks.

“She has the guts to physically abuse me over my husband and in my own house,” she said.

Singano said she was now living in fear because of Chitemerere’s violent behaviour.

Chitemerere did not show up at court. Mr Nyatsanza granted the peace order in default which barred Chitemerere from physically or verbally abusing Singano.

He also ordered Chitemerere to keep peace towards Singano at all times.
