Maintenance discharge dismissed

A HARARE man applied for a discharge in maintenance after his children told him that their mother had moved in with another man and left them alone.

Thomas accused Veronica Tapoka of leaving the children alone, but continuing to collect maintenance while staying with another man.

Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini dismissed his application due to lack of merit.

Argued Thomas:

“l took the kids for holiday and they told me that it was a lie that their mother was in Mozambique, but she is staying with another man.

“l have taken the kids to my mother where they will be staying and going to school if the court permits,” he said.

Veronica denied the accusations saying that he just wants to take the children away from her and she was surprised when she was summoned to court.

“All he said is a lie. I am not even married or have a boyfriend. I am working somewhere as a caretaker.

“Our kids are in Form 4 and Form 2.

“It worries me that they aren’t going to school right now.

“He pays $5 400 maintenance and l never bothered him for anything. I am actually surprised that we are here because we never had any problems,” she said.
