adminTRAFFIC crawled at snail’s pace along the Mandela Highway as hundreds of motorists made their way towards Caymanas Estate in St Catherine on Saturday night. The venue played host to the Red Stripe-sponsored Major Lazer and Friends concert. When the Jamaica Observer team entered the venue close to midnight, English band Rudimental was bringing a melodious vibe to the concert with songs including Feel the Love and Waiting all Night.
As promised, Skrillex created a musical inferno with his selections of rap, reggae and world music. Among them were his collaboration with Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley called Let it Bun. The pint-sized, EDM prince could do no wrong as he kept his fans entertained for approximately 45 minutes.
Following his great set, headliners Major Lazer brought the energy to its highest level.
Accompanied by two sexy female dancers, the trio (Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire) delivered a number of popular selections, but their set was not just about music.
The EDM’s heavyweights were up to their usual antics and threw what appeared to be piles of cash into the audience. Some patrons tussled for the notes but soon realised that the ‘currency’ was merely promotional items.
Adding his share of excitement to the event was soca king Machael Montano. In addition to performing his collaboration with Major Lazer called Sound Bang, Montano transformed Caymanas Estate into a Bachanal party. He delivered songs including Live My Life, The Fog, Stand Up and a rendition of Tony Rebel’s Fresh Vegetable.
Earlier that evening, invigorating performances also came from DJ Snake, Sean Paul, Kamal Bankay and Chi Ching Ching. – Jamaica Observer.
