Police commissioner Erasmus Makodza, charged with corruptly concealing a transaction from a principal, failed to attend court on Friday because he was in self-isolation after testing positive for Covid-19.

Makodza was supposed to appear at the Harare Magistrates Court for continuation of his defence, but his lawyer Mr Tapiwa Makanza presented a letter confirming his condition.

Makodza is alleged to have failed to disclose his interest when his ex-lover entered into an investment partnership to do farming on police land in Mashonaland East at a time when he was the provincial commanding officer.

Prosecutors Mr Tafara Chirambira and Mrs Tendai Shonhai applied for an administrative warrant of arrest during the time Makodza will be in self-isolation.

Magistrate Mr Noel Mupeiwa granted the State’s application.

On his last appearance, Makodza said Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga told him that he was impressed by the investment projects that he initiated at the police farm.

He said this proved that there were no complaints from the police over the partnership between his ex-lover Maonei Chapfudza and the police.

“I disclosed my relationship with Maonei Chapfudza to my deputies and provincial police intelligence,” he said.
