Makomo FC fire early warning shots

Zifa Mat North Division Two League early pacesetters Makomo FC have vowed to continue with their menacing form as the league enters its second week tomorrow in the coal mining town and Victoria Falls. The ambitious outfit started the campaign on a high note after posting an impressive 3-0 victory over Hwange Under-17s away from home to send a clear message of their intentions in this year’s campaign.

It was such a dazzling show that left Hwange Under-17s, popular for their sleek passing game and attacking flair, chasing shadows the entire afternoon to leave the equally youthful coach Never “Pablo” Munkuli at a loss for words after the contest.

Tomorrow they face Classic Luyando from Victoria Falls at GVZ Stadium.

“We want to hammer teams this year as we are preparing to go to Division One next year. The team is well drilled my brother, there will be war for any team which plays Makomo in the league whether home or away,” declared an over confident Mernard Mayera who is the team’s chairman.

Head coach Tapela Ngwenya will be banking on the likes of Craven Tamirepi, Clive Sibanda, David Bizabani, Lovemore Dube, Loyd Chimuchenga, Kudakwashe Sithole and Peter Dhani for glory during the long campaign.

Classic Luyando, losers at home last week to ZRP Hwange, will have to summon all the strength to stop Makomo.

In another match tomorrow, army side Moto Moto will have to be at their best at Sports Pavilion when they entertain Ingagula who started their season with a 1-0 win over Kamandama Celtic last week.

The soldiers started the season firing blanks with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of new boys Broncos.

On Sunday, Blackrock entertain Baobab Rovers, another team showing a lot of promise in the league while at Makwika Stadium, Brazil, who started on a low note after a 0-1 defeat to Iwisa, take on Prison Eagles.

The prison wardens drew two all with Blackrock last weekend.

Lwendulu-based Iwisa will have to prove that their victory over stubborn Brazil last weekend was no fluke as they travel to the dreaded Madumabisa Stadium to take on Kamandama Celtics who are hard pressed to start winning after being edged 1-0 by Ingagula away from home last week.

Moses Gama is expected to bang more goals for Iwisa after his solitary strike against Brazil.

Rufaro Rovers, who failed to travel to Victoria Falls last week for matches against Victoria Falls Tigers, (formely Mkhosana) are expected to kick-start their campaign with a tie against Broncos at Old Stadium on Sunday.

On the same day fireworks are expected at Chinotimba Stadium when Amagagasi and Victoria Falls Tigers lock horns in what is set to be an explosive derby.

Hwange Under-17s will clash with Zambezi Lions in an early kick off match before the Amagagasi/Victoria Falls clash.
Amagagasi started well with a 3-1 away victory over Hwange’s Fire FC while Tigers benefited from a 3-0 walk over on Rufaro Rovers.
