Makumbe High School in Buhera’s Makumbe Theatre Productions has released its first Shona movie “Ndochema nani”. The movie was written, directed and produced by Kennedy Kuseka, who is a teacher at the school. In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Kuseka said the movie seeks to educate children on the effects of peer pressure in schools and also enlightens parents on the impact of their conduct on their children’s behaviour.

“The cast is made up of Makumbe High school children from Form 1 to Form 6 and I am impressed that they have all shown their willingness to learn new things and most of them want to become celebrated actors and actresses.

“The message conveyed in this movie is quite beneficial to the community, youths and adults and in a bid to ensure that the message reaches all the target audience, English subtitles were included in the movie,” he said.

He said some of the problems that children face at school are because of the unbecoming characters of their parents. He called on parents to live exemplary lives that their children might emulate. Kuseka said the movie production was passion-driven aided by his acquisition of theatre skills and knowledge from organisations like Zimbabwe Association of Community Theatre (ZACT).

“The production also seeks to nurture latent talents inherent in both youths and adult members of the society towards upholding the country’s Zim-Asset programme,” he said.

He added that apart from self-reliance, the movie helps youths to be responsible and useful members of the society.

Meanwhile, Kuseka said in spite of tight finances, another production is already on its way and will be out by end of August.

Kuseka is handling the distribution of the movie personally and selling the discs for a dollar each.
