WHEN Brandon Sphamandla Jiyane first started posting videos on TikTok, it was simply a way to express his creativity and entertain people.
Today, the 21-year-old, popularly known as Malum Vumbs, has built a loyal following of more than 20 000 followers and is steadily making a name for himself in Bulawayo’s digital entertainment space.
Born and raised in Pumula South, Brandon is a content creator, master of ceremonies (MC), youth leader and entrepreneur who believes social media can be used to inspire and create opportunities for young people.
Using the TikTok handle @malum_vumbs, he has amassed over 20,3K followers and more than 249,7K likes through comedy skits, POV videos, street interviews, lifestyle content and event coverage.
“I started creating content because I wanted to entertain people and express my creativity. What started as something fun gradually became a passion as I saw more people enjoying my videos and supporting my work,” he said.
Brandon said he enjoys producing relatable content that reflects everyday life in Zimbabwe.
“I believe relatable content connects best with audiences, and I always try to keep my videos natural and entertaining.”
His biggest video has attracted more than 180 000 views, while several others have reached tens of thousands of viewers.
“I enjoy the public interaction videos the most because every conversation is different, making the content genuine and memorable.”
Like many young creators, Brandon has faced challenges including the high cost of internet access, limited resources and the struggle to gain recognition. Despite the obstacles, he has remained consistent.
“The biggest motivation for me is the support I receive from my followers. Their encouragement pushes me to continue improving.”
His growing influence has also opened business opportunities through paid partnerships and helped him establish himself as an MC. One of his proudest moments was being appointed as an ambassador for one of Bulawayo’s leading entertainment venues, Samuriwo.
“That recognition showed me that people appreciate the work I put into building my brand, and it motivates me to keep aiming higher.”
Away from content creation, Brandon is an entrepreneur who sells clothing and also trades in vehicles. He said interacting with different people through business often inspires the content he creates.
Looking to the future, he hopes to expand beyond TikTok by growing his presence across other social media platforms, partnering with more brands and building a long-term career in media and entertainment.
He also encouraged aspiring content creators not to wait for perfect conditions before getting started.
“Just start. Do not wait until you have the perfect phone or equipment. Use what you have, stay consistent, keep learning and let your work speak for itself,” he said.
