AFTER making a handful of appearances since he joined Dynamos at the beginning of last season, midfielder Masimba Mambare has vowed not to let more injuries ruin his career following his recovery from an ankle problem that had kept him on the sidelines for a month.
The injury-prone midfielder missed the opening four games of this season for Dynamos, but is now up and running after playing his first league match as a 55th minute substitute against Flame Lily on Sunday at Gwanzura.
Mambare twisted his ankle a few days before the start of the season and had feared a repeat of last year’s script when he had to spend almost the entire season nursing a nagging knee which required surgery to repair damaged ligaments.
The player has struggled to flourish since his high-profile move to Dynamos last year after he ditched Highlanders.
He played a small role in his debut season with the Glamour Boys when they went for a fourth title in succession.
“I feel happy to be back in the game,” said Mambare.
“As a footballer you always look forward to playing every time because to some of us football is life. I want to thank God I healed faster than I had expected.
“It’s almost like a miracle that I managed to play a league game after that injury. I have been longing for this time to come. I just want to thank God for this because I thought it would take long to heal,” said Mambare.
Mambare replaced Oscar Machapa on Sunday as Dynamos overcame resilient newboys Flame Lily to notch up their fourth win in five starts.
Another second-half substitute Dominic Chungwa scored the solitary goal in the 89th minute to help Dynamos keep the pace with log leaders Triangle at 13 points.
Mambare said he is aware of the huge expectations at Harare giants and will fight for his place in the team.
“Dynamos is always a tough team to play for. They have quality players in every position, including mine. “I think I will have to fight for my place because no one is guaranteed a starting place in the team. I believe I am a fighter and I will fight till I get myself in the starting line-up.
“I am not a person who is used to sitting on the sidelines. I have been playing first team football for a long time. It had not easy but that I was on the bench (on Sunday) was fulfilling.
“My personal target at the moment is to regain the form that I had before the injury. It comes through hard work and I hope in the coming fixtures I should be able to rise and play to my best.
“Our target as a team is winning the championship. The Dynamos family puts the message across very well. We have to work hard and win, it’s a pressure team.
“Every game we play we are expected to win. So we play to win matches and to achieve what other teams cannot. Each and every player knows that the moment you wear the blue and white jersey you have to produce results,” said Mambare.
Following his side’s 1-0 defeat, Flame Lily coach said his team lacked experienced as the buckled at the last minute.
