A MANHUNT has been launched for a cunning Nyanga man (28) who allegedly raped two mental patients, aged 11 and 18, on several occasions and impregnated the latter before vanishing.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri, appealed to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the Anesu Nyagadza of Dzapasi Village to report to the nearest police station.
“We are digging deep into the matter and ascertain why really the man would target mentally charged persons. We urge people to desist from taking advantage of mentally charged people and abuse them,” Insp Chishiri said.
The incidents happened in Chief Saunyama’s area and came to light on April 5.
Anesu allegedly pounced on the first victim, an 18-year-old woman from Dzapasi Village, sometime last year.
He raped the woman several times during the absence of her uncle until she fell pregnant.
The matter came to light on April 5 after he uncle quizzed her. She divulged that she was raped by Anesu.
The matter was reported to police, but Anesu quickly vanished from the village.
Last year during the same time, Anesu allegedly raped another villager, an 11-year-old girl, on several occasions.
The issue came to light on April 5 after the girl reported to a neighbour who happened to be the first victim’s uncle. The uncle reported the matter to the police.
“We have launched a manhunt to bring the suspect to book.
“Anyone with information leading to his arrest should contact any nearest police station,” added Insp Chishiri.
