A MAN from Bulawayo’s Sizinda suburb allegedly went berserk and stabbed his mother on the head several times with a knife for not preparing food.

Hlalani Khumalo, 28, appeared before Provincial magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo facing a physical abuse charge.

He was not asked to plead.

Prosecuting Mclean Ndlovu told the court that on Monday around midnight, Khumalo went home drunk and knocked on the door demanding that his mother – who was asleep – open the door for him.

The court heard that Khumalo further demanded food from his mother who told him she hadn’t prepared anything.

The response allegedly angered Khumalo who drew a knife from his pocket and stabbed his mother several times on her head.

The court heard that Khumalo was in the habit of going home drunk and demanding food from his mother late at night even to the extent of ordering his mother to wake up and cook for his girlfriend.

The magistrate remanded him in custody to December 29.
