Man (32) assaults granny (70) with knobkerrie in cattle dispute

A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Nkayi in Matabeleland North province ran berserk and assaulted a 70-year-old woman with a knobkerrie on the face following a dispute over cattle that the old woman was driving off her homestead.

For the offence Bongani Khumalo appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza charged with attempted murder.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to 26 November.

Allegations are that on 19 October 2024, at around 1am, Bongani met Sloidge Khumalo, who was chasing cattle away from her homestead.

Angered by this, Bongani suspected she was stealing the cattle and confronted her. He then assaulted her with a knobkerrie, striking her several times on the face, leaving her with scars and bruises.

The matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of the culprit.

The victim was referred to the hospital for medical examination and she is currently admitted to Nkayi District Hospital.
