POWER Sessions will be hosting a comedy and poetry show next week at the Harvest House International church in Bulawayo to promote awareness on gender based violence.
The theme of the event is ‘Love doesn’t hurt’ – a concept that is set to educate victims to speak out and fight against gender based violence.
The founder of the initiative, Chengetai Sithole said their goal is to break the silence and raise awareness on the dangers of gender based violence.
“This is a night of empowerment where we will be raising awareness on gender based violence. The aim is to curb it through the use of art, music and community engagement,” he said.
Sithole indicated that they are motivated by the need to support the survivors and advocates of gender based violence.
“Our motivation is in promoting active participation and engagement on issues of gender based violence. We will also give a platform to survivors who will be sharing their personal experiences,” said Sithole.
He indicated that their line up for the vent entails a number of popular poets and musicians.
“We have a number of artists that are set perform at the event and these are Mbongeni Ignatius, General Lesley, Princess Nate, Nhlanhla, Pastor Black Sheep, Nkosi King, Reaper Vlad, Ibhubesi Elimhlophe, Farai, Kuziva, Sonkomose and Mbulazi,” he said.
Sithole added that they are set to have a march against gender based violence in December.
