POLICE in Chimanimani have launched a manhunt for a 45-year-old man who raped a juvenile on Tuesday and disappeared.
Chipinge District police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Blessing Kadzuraumera, appealed for information leading to the arrest of Nerk Marowa.
It is alleged that Marowa committed the offence at Jantia Resettlement area of Chimanimani.
Asst Insp Kadzuraumera said Marowa approached the unsuspecting juvenile who was alone at home and asked for the whereabouts of her mother who was not at home.
“After being told that the complainant’s mother was away, Marowa pretended to have left.
“He hid in a bush near the toilet. He then returned and went to the sitting room where the girl was relaxing. He dragged her to the toilet. The girl cried for help, but no-one came to her rescue as most people were working in the fields.
“He raped her once and threatened to kill the juvenile if she divulged to anyone what had happened. Marowa disappeared,” he said.
Asst Insp Kadzuraumera said the juvenile told her mother what had happened in her absence and a report was made to the police.
The girl was taken to Mutambara Mission Hospital for medical examination.
“Investigations are in progress to bring Marowa to book.
“We are appealing to the general public if anyone has information of Marowa’s whereabouts to contact their nearest police station,” said Asst Insp Kadzuraumera.
