A 25-year-old man from Kuwadzana 5 appeared at the Mbare Magistrates’ Court facing a theft charge.

Tafadzwa Tafirenyika allegedly stole a Samsung J7 cellphone and US$2 800 from John Perseverance’s vehicle.

Tafirenyika, who is a warehouse assistant at Chill Liquor, was arrested on Sunday.

Perseverance realised that his cellphone and cash were missing at 2am on Sunday at Habhana Lounge.

He requested to view CCTV footage from Habhana Lounge and saw Tafirenyika opening his car, leading to his arrest.

Tafirenyika denied the allegations.

“I never took his money or phone. I just passed by the car and he assumed it was me who broke in.

“If the court pleases, I would like to be given bail because I have not committed any crime and I am a family man as well.”

Magistrate Talent Mutasa granted Tafirenyika $30 000 bail and ordered him to return to court on May 2.
