Man arrested for pushing colleague to death over $10 dispute

A gruesome murder has shaken the Jumbo Mine community in Mazowe, after a 34-year-old man allegedly pushed his colleague to his death in a mine shaft following a heated argument over a $10 debt.

Rynos Makwembere has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the incident, which occurred on January 20, 2025, at SOS Claim, Jumbo Mine.

According to the police, the victim, 37-year-old Claude Nyamatope, fell into a disused mine shaft and died instantly after being pushed by Makwembere.

“The victim… fell into a disused mine shaft and died on the spot after being pushed by the suspect following a misunderstanding over US$10,” the police stated.

The two men had reportedly received payment for constructing a shed at the mine, but Makwembere allegedly withheld Nyamatope’s share, sparking the fatal dispute.
