A HARARE man appeared in court yesterday accused of stealing railway equipment.

Tatenda Gwekwerere, 23, was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate, Stanford Mambanje, on accusations of stealing from the National Railways Depot.

Allegations were that on March 9, the NRZ loss control officer, Bardon Redson, and his workmate, were on patrol duty when they spotted Gwekwerere standing suspiciously in the yard.

Redson continued monitoring him for several days and found out that he was collecting scrap metal from the yard and passing it on to his accomplices through the fence.

Redson apprehended Gwekwerere and found him in possession of eight NRZ iron pins.

He also led him to the recovery of three NRZ brake blocks and two brake components.

The recovered property was valued at US$660.
