A 31-YEAR-OLD man from Nketa suburb in Bulawayo was arrested for allegedly stealing his ex-wife’s cell phone following a dispute over infidelity.
Marvelous Tshuma appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ernest Muzembe facing theft charges. He pleaded not guilty and the matter was remanded to February 26 for trial.
The court heard that on January 25, 2025, at Ross Camp police quarters, Tshuma was escorting his ex-wife Lindiwe Mutinhima, a police officer to her place, despite their separation when a disagreement arose between the two parties over infidelity.
Tshuma allegedly snatched Mutinhima’s phone and fled. The matter was reported to the police, leading to Tshuma’s arrest.
In her testimony, Mutinhima, stated that Tshuma had requested to see their children and they met in town.
“Tshuma asked to see where we live. He kept following us and began insulting me, demanding to see the person I am living with,” she said.
Mutinhima recounted that while she was calling her friend, Tshuma snatched her phone and proceeded to insult her friend.
She then dropped their children off at home and returned to retrieve her phone.
“I found the accused talking to my friend, Memory Dube, asking if she knew I was engaged in prostitution,” Mutinhima said.
She further stated that the accused fled with her phone, prompting her to report the matter to the police.
“When the police summoned the accused, he threw the cell phone at the counter and ran away. That’s when I recovered the phone,” she said.
