Man arrested while trying to sell stolen mopani worms

POLICE have arrested a 40-year-old Beitbridge man in connection with a robbery in which cash and five bags of mopani worms were stolen from a house in New Alpha Suburb.

The suspect, Collin Mupanduki (40), was arrested on July 1 after detectives tracked him down while he was allegedly trying to find buyers for the stolen mopani worms, popularly known as madora or amancimbi.

In a statement posted on its official social media platforms, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the robbery occurred at a house in New Alpha Suburb, where the suspect allegedly stole R1 600 in cash and five bags of mopani worms.

Police said investigations led detectives to the suspect as he allegedly attempted to dispose of the stolen produce.

“The suspect was arrested while attempting to find buyers for the stolen Mopani worms,” said the police.

The arrest resulted in the recovery of all five bags of mopani worms allegedly stolen during the robbery.

Police also recovered an axe, a knife and machetes believed to have been used in the commission of the offence.
