A LUPANE man beat up and detained his wife for allegedly infecting him with a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) that resulted in his testicles growing two-fold in size.
Thabiso Sibanda (45), a general hand at the Nkayi government offices, went home to see his family. While there as nature would have it, he had sex with his wife Sihle Moyo (37). But two days later he developed itching pimples on his private parts. He scratched and scratched until his testicles got swollen.
He then went to a clinic and was told he had contracted a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI). On his return home he told his wife who in turn accused him of sleeping around. As a result he got angry and beat her up with a rope. She suffered injuries on her face, chest and shoulders. He then locked her up for two days.
When he let her go she filed a police report leading to his arrest. Appearing before Lupane resident magistrate Ndumo Masuku facing physical abuse charge Sibanda pleaded guilty.
He was handed a four-month jail sentence but two months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within a period of five years. Another month was suspended on condition of good behaviour. Sibanda will serve 210 hours of community service at Lupane District Hospital.
