Man assaults landlord with knobkerrie in rent dispute

A 29-year-old man from Bulawayo’s Mzilikazi suburb appeared in court facing charges of assault. He allegedly beat up his landlord with a knobkerrie.

Philelinkosi Gwebu appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Mr Steve Ramaboena, who remanded him in custody until July 10. Gwebu pleaded guilty to the charges.

Prosecutor Ms Josephine Gurazhira told the court that the incident occurred on 1 July at around 9PM, the accused person assaulted his landlord, Dambisa Mafu (76), after he had asked for money for rentals since it was at the end of the month.

The court heard that Gwebu hit his landlord with a knobkerrie all over the body.

He sustained injuries on his left leg and his right hand.
A police report was filed, leading to the arrest of the accused person.
