A 24-year-old man allegedly ran amok and assaulted his 58-year-old mother after she reprimanded him for lighting a fire inside the house.Gladys Ndlovu told Western Commonage Magistrate Temba Chimiso that she no longer felt safe staying with her son Taylor Ziyera as he continuously harassed her.
“Your worship, am I going back home with him? My son is very violent and he never obeys me. I’ve had enough of him,” said Ndlovu.
Magistrate Chimiso reprimanded Ziyera for disrespecting his mother, when he appeared before him facing a physical abuse charge.
“The allegations you’re facing are disturbing. There’s no way you can go unpunished. It’s taboo in our culture to assault your mother. You’ll be kept in custody until the date for continuation of the case,” said Chimiso.
He remanded Ziyera in custody to April 30.
Prosecuting Tony Kamudyariwa told the court that on Friday last week, Ndlovu returned home from church and found Ziyera making a fire inside the house.
He said when Ndlovu told him to put it out, an incensed Ziyera started shouting at his mother. Ndlovu then ordered him to pack his belongings and leave the house.
Kamudyariwa said Ziyera took his property and placed it outside the house.
After two days, Ndlovu told him he could return his property into the house.
The State alleged that Ziyera complied and soon after returning the property in the house, he locked all the doors.
Ziyera went on to punch his mother and he kicked her several times all over the body.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Ziyera’s arrest.
