A 27-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park suburb has been arrested for assaulting his mother with a cooking stick. Allan Chishapiro was angry that the food his mother had given him was “too little” and slapped her.

He appeared before magistrate Temba Chimiso facing a physical abuse charge and pleaded guilty.

He was remanded to December 4.

Allan told the court that he assaulted his mother, Precious Chishapiro, because he has a mental problem.

“I admit to assaulting my mother but it’s because I’ve mental health challenges. I was once treated at Ingutsheni Central Hospital,” said Allan who was once arrested for assaulting his father.

Magistrate Chimiso reprimanded him saying it is taboo to beat up one’s parents and it usually invites misfortunes.

Prosecuting, Mitchelle Chiboiwa told the court that on Wednesday, Allan assaulted his mother using a cooking stick twice on the head and slapped her once on the face.

The court heard that Precious was preparing food for the family when Allan complained that his mother had given him little food and started assaulting her with a cooking stick. He also slapped her on the cheek.

Precious ran out of the house and went to report her son to the police leading to his arrest.
