THE man arrested for allegedly attempting to disarm a soldier guarding the main gate of Zimbabwe House, a protected area, on Tuesday now faces a mental health examination.
Moses Ruvheneko was brought before Harare magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo facing charges of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct in a public place.
He was remanded in custody until November 20 pending a mental health examination as requested by the State.
Prosecutor Mr Takudzwa Jambawu said on Tuesday at around 3pm Ruvheneko allegedly unlawfully walked along Liberation Legacy Way in Harare, a restricted area for pedestrians located opposite Zimbabwe House.
As he approached the main gate, Ruvheneko allegedly confronted the security guard on duty and attempted to seize his SKS rifle shouting, “Where is ED? I want to see ED.”
A struggle ensued between Ruvheneko and the guard and another security officer quickly intervened. Together, they managed to subdue and apprehend Ruvheneko.
During the scuffle, Ruvheneko sustained an injury to his left hand after grabbing the bayonet attached to the rifle he was trying to snatch.
He was subsequently taken to the police post in Leonard Brezhnev Avenue where a report was filed.
