Man axed over duty roster

A Chitungwiza man is lucky to be alive after he was struck on the head with an axe by his workmate in a row over a sweeping duty roster.
Tseriwa Muchabaiwa (37) of Unit M had an altercation with Collin Jumbi (30) on August 11 this year at C Junction.The pair, who survive on broom making, quarrelled over who was on duty to clean their workplace.

The court heard that an angry Jumbi charged towards Muchabaiwa accusing him of being arrogant and neglecting his duty.

Jumbi further blamed Muchabaiwa of using him since the latter had brought him to Harare.

In a fit of rage, the court heard that Jumbi picked up a small axe and struck Muchabaiwa on the back of his head.

Muchabaiwa bled profusely and the matter was reported to the police leading to Jumbi’s arrest.

Appearing before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Clever Tsikwa, Jumbi was convicted on his own plea to attempted murder charges.

Jumbi was sentenced to four years in prison with one and half years suspended for five years.

Effectively, he will serve two and half years in prison.
