A 19-year-old man from Beatrice lost six teeth after he was hit with a concrete brick on the mouth, while trying to stop a fight between his brother and another patron during a drinking binge.Joseph Spencer of Swallow Field Farm in Beatrice was with his brother, Tongai Changa, at a beerhall in the same area on January 23 this year.
At around 2am Changa had a misunderstanding with Tafadzwa Maruta (19) from the same farm over beer.
The court heard that an argument ensued resulting in a fierce fight with Maruta severely assaulting Changa.
Spencer intervened with the intention of restraining Maruta, whoa pretended to have calmed down before picking up a concrete brick and hit Spencer on the mouth, resulting in him losing six teeth.
The matter was reported to police leading to Maruta’s arrest.
Chitungwiza resident magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei slapped Maruta with a two-year prison term on his own plea to assault charges.
Maruta will serve one and half years in jail, after six months of his sentence were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa prosecuted.
